Shut up about Obama taking a selfie. Shut up about trying to equate Obamacare with the apartheid. This day is Mandela’s memorial… focus your attention on paying respects to a man who became a face to the opposition to the apartheid. Educate yourself about the apartheid, how absolutely heinous it was and how its effects still resinate with non-whites and how much outrageous poverty and lack of employment so many South Africans face (41% and predominately among non-whites, of course). Realize that Mandela advocated forgiveness and is a global example of moral authority— while also being an activist. He did not sit passively as his government continuously perpetuated blatant racism, but instead helped bring about political change. Do not do him the disservice of letting his legacy be anything less than inspiring.
I despise my own hypersensitiveness, which requires so much reassurance. It is certainly abnormal to crave so much to be loved and understood.
